There’ve been many songs over the years that have touched us on a very personal level. Some of the songs may be classics that we continue to hear played on the radio, many years after they were first created. Although they may be decades old, we still get chills when we hear them and we can’t help but sing along. I think that is how many people feel about an old Simon and Garfunkel hit, The Sound of Silence. It’s just one of those songs that seems to speak to us on a very personal level and I believe that many of us feel that it was written specifically with us and our situation in mind.
When a song hits a high level of popularity, there is something interesting that typically happens. Although the original is still something that many of us adore, it is copied and redone so many times that it truly takes on an entirely new meaning. We are never going to stop loving the original and honestly, there is never going to be anything quite like it. Every once in a while, however, we hear a remake of the song that takes us by surprise. The beauty of the music is something that we can take to heart, and I think that Stephanie Jones of Australia performs this song masterfully on the guitar. She did it to honor her mother on her birthday and although she doesn’t use words, it’s a tribute that you can’t ignore.
When Jones was very young, she loved music and the acoustic guitar was her choice of instrument. She actually plays a number of instruments and she studied at University of music Franz Liszt under Professor Thomas Müller-Peringunder in Germany. After graduating, she continued with her musical career and has recorded a number of solo albums. Along with the classic that you hear the video below, she has also done Leonard Cohen’s hallelujah.
Jones continues to win many awards as a result of her musical abilities. Those abilities are easy to see when you hear her playing the guitar. It’s almost as if she was born to play it, and I think that we were meant to hear that song played out. Listen to it for yourself in the following video:
