As we go about our day-to-day lives, we may come across the police more than once. Perhaps we see them out in their patrol car or we may sometimes see them in the store. At any case, we don’t really give it much thought until we either need them or until we see them in an emergency situation. It is then that we come to the realization that they are there for our benefit and sometimes, they are asked to go above and beyond in their duty.
What is it that you think of when you envision a police officer? Most of us think of a smartly dressed man or woman in uniform who is perhaps in a patrol car. Although that may be true in some cases, you also need to think about the canine cops that are out there on the streets every day. Those dogs are specifically trained for a very special purpose and there are times when they are asked to go above and beyond in the call of duty as well.
When a police dog is trained, they may be specifically trained to sniff out drugs, bombs or perhaps to run in and stop someone who may be threatening the human officers. They do so without hesitating. Although they are trained in that way, they are amazing animals who have the ability to be trained in many other ways as well.
Some of the smartest dog breeds are used as police dogs, including the German Shepherd. Those dogs are frequently used in the police force as well as in the Armed Forces. They are more than a loyal companion on the force, they are a great friend as well.
